No matter how much celebrity chef Jamie Oliver tried to get it through to those in the Department of Health, that kids need to have a decent healthy meal if they’re going to stand a chance in life. It would seem that children in England and Wales have also missed out on balanced meals while they are toddlers.
So far only the Scottish Government have implemented Nutritional guidance for children in pre-school education.
A recent report in England claimed that almost 1 in 5 [or 20%] of children are clinically overweight by the time they arrive at school. And for the moment it doesn’t seem that there is any prospect of anything changing.
The situation across the UK is like a patchwork quilt, with Wales implementing their own guidelines on a trial basis, England having ‘advise’ and absolutely nothing in place in Northern Ireland.
It doesn’t seem right that in the 21st Century that government still cannot implement a co-ordinated plan to try and protect the health of all our children no matter which part of the country they come from.
It seems that maybe I was wrong, Come back Jamie – Somebody still needs you.
